Hubs and I had a mutual day off, so we strapped on our walking shoes, headed out about an hour from home and went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. It’s a smaller zoo than our home zoo in Denver, but I really loved it. The enclosures are built to be more naturally integrated with the landscape and though they have a smaller selection, they have mostly different animals. For instance, their Orangutan exhibit was something I hadn’t seen at the Denver Zoo, and the naked mole rats were very fun. There were a ton of babies, but most were not very good about posing for the crappy camera on my phone.
However, we did get some pretty decent pictures. Sorry for the quality, but we were really able to get close to many of the animals. I felt more deeply connected to the animals than at the Denver Zoo. And of course, it’s built on the side of a mountain, so incredible views everywhere!
And our dog, Coco, pretending to be a cat and sitting on the windowsill.
